Challenge

A European airline sought to modernize its flight operations in line with both environmental and digital transformation goals. Their ambition: to eliminate outdated, paper-heavy cockpit procedures by replacing them with a fully digital, tablet-based Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system across a fleet of aircraft from a global aerospace leader.

To succeed, the airline required a secure, scalable mobile ecosystem—capable of meeting the stringent operational and compliance demands of the aviation industry while enabling real-time data access and minimizing environmental impact.

Approach

Cloudcomputing was engaged to deliver an end-to-end cybersecurity and mobile device management (MDM) solution tailored for aviation. Our approach focused on building a hardened, policy-controlled environment for EFB devices that could be centrally managed, remotely updated, and effortlessly scaled.

Security and usability were treated as complementary—not competing—objectives. By embedding identity, access, and application security into the core architecture, we ensured seamless functionality for cockpit crews while maintaining full operational oversight for the airline’s IT and security teams.

Solution

The comprehensive solution delivered by Cloudcomputing included:

  • Mobile Device Management (MDM) for 150+ EFB tablets;
  • Single App Mode to prevent device misuse and enforce dedicated use;
  • Secure sandboxed environments for browser and application isolation;
  • Content locker for encrypted distribution of flight manuals and data
  • Mission-critical app lifecycle management
  • Operational email integration for flight crews
  • Policy-based enforcement of security and compliance controls
  • Centralized patching and configuration to ensure up-to-date deployments

By integrating identity controls and device security into a unified platform, we enabled a future-proof foundation for secure, digital-first operations.

Impact

The initiative delivered measurable improvements across environmental, operational, and security domains:

  • CO₂ emissions reduced by ~165 tons per year
  • Fuel savings of ~50 tons annually through better operational insights
  • Paper reduction of ~500,000 A4 sheets per year
  • Enhanced safety and efficiency with real-time access to critical flight data
  • Streamlined compliance and oversight through centralized device governance

The result is a leaner, greener, and more secure cockpit experience—empowering flight crews with modern tools while advancing the airline’s ESG goals.

Conclusion

This project showcases how Cloudcomputing enables secure digital transformation in highly regulated environments. By uniting cybersecurity, sustainability, and innovation, we’ve helped one of Europe’s leading airlines set a new standard for operational efficiency and environmental responsibility—backed by a resilient and secure mobile ecosystem.

While we do not disclose the name of the airline for confidentiality reasons, the results speak for themselves—showing how secure modernization can drive real progress on both operational and environmental goals.
